This cake has what I like to call my ombre method. It’s a method I came up with to create and ombre look or horizontal stripes, depending on what you’re looking for.
To make the cake, I first give it a thin final coat in white to just even out the shape. I then add the top color and smooth it out.
From there I take multiple bags of color, numbered to keep them from getting mixed up, all fitted with medium sized flat tips. I start from the bottom to the top, adding single stripes of each color in the order I want. I then place the cake in the fridge to cool.
Once the cake is cooled, I take a bench scraper or cake smoother and carefully smooth out the cake, wiping the scraper clean in between each use, to ensure that the colors don’t blend too much.
For this cake, I did the same method on both cakes, then once they were stacked added yellow stars using a small 5 point star tip.
